I understand the premise; the decline in high frequency hearing can be compensated by EQ, but won't that make reproduced music sound unnatural?
To be more clear; let's say I have high-frequency hearing loss. I go to a show and decide to buy the group's CD or vinyl. Once I get home, I play it on my highs-boosted system, where it sounds different than the original. It just seems that what a person normally hears is their standard, and any deviation has to sound odd.
But most of the time we aren't listening to music. And if you are used to your system, it becomes your standard.
If you are used to a boom box and hear a set of Altecs, they may not sound natural...
You get used to the change quickly.
Your neighbors called. They like your music.
